Download the audio content for "Korean Made Simple" for free!

Special thanks to my friend Jeremy from Spongemind.org and the YouTube channel MotivateKorean for helping to arrange native Korean speakers to record the audio of the three "Korean Made Simple" books. I couldn't have made the audio files if it weren't for him and his native speaking Korean acquaintances who took on the assignment.

Here's what you get:

  • Approximately two hours of Korean content from the three books, recorded by native speakers.
  • Hangul practice sections (Korean Made Simple 1)
    • Introduction to Hangul
    • More Hangul
    • Introduction to Sound Changes
  • Every chapter conversation from all three books (Korean Made Simple 1, 2, and 3).

These audio files were made to be used together with "Korean Made Simple" 1, 2, and 3.

The files have been carefully created to be used both while at home, and while out and about. You can listen to them while studying at your desk, commuting to work, or during exercise.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported me through this web site, my YouTube channel, and these books. I look forward to continue teaching and creating new lessons and videos.

In addition, you can also download the audio files for the Expanded Workbooks for "Korean Made Simple" books 1 to 3 below. These files are marked in the workbooks, so you can easily find which one to play through the filename.

  • Hi! I really want to learn Korean and I bought all three books and workbooks after watching some YouTube channels. The book has been good so far but I was only able to download chapter one. Also, audio would be nice for the beginning of learning the sounds of the letters. Do you have any audio for letter sounds and sound changes? I don’t understand sound changes and when a g sounds like a k and a b sounds like a p. It’s so confusing.

    • For the sounds of individual words, I recommend Naver Dictionary. There are audio files for almost every single Korean word, and you can also read exactly how all of them are pronounced.

I love the books and videos, your youtube BTS reviews were really interesting, I can hear every little detail in Suga's dialogue now, including the sucking in air when he is thinking. Thank you for such great input! I find the reading very fast, but I think I need more practice to become familiar. You have done a really nice job! 감사합니다 from Australia! PS I also really liked the Hangul museum that you visited with your son and we learnt about the History of Korea.

  • When I click on the link, it keeps showing a blank white screen. I’m on my phone. That is the only source that I have for Internet. I think it’s just not compatible with phones or at least my phone. Is there another spot where I could access the audio?

    • You'll have to download it from a device that lets you download Zip files. Your phone's browser might not allow downloads, so you can try a different browser. If you open it with any Zip opener, it will work on any device.

Hello, Billy! After watching your lessons on youtube I bought your books to have more of a structure in my learning. And so far I love it! I really enjoy learning Korean with your help. Just in the category "even better if" I'd love to have more from the audio. Where I live there's no Koreans at all, no Korean lessons/ teachers available. I rely on your resources 100%. I'd really really like to be able to listen to more Korean, not just the dialogue but most of the example sentences, exercises, new vocab. So even when on my way to work I could just put my headphones on and do some recap just by listening... Just a little dream (humble request?) of mine 😁 Thanks again for preparing such a great course!

Hi, I purchased the workbook #1 in pdf file and the link to track #2 doesn't work so I came here to this site. However, I am having a hard time understanding which audio is supposed to go with the audio as the file name is different. Could you please assist with this?

Each audio files also has a "Track Number" in its metadata. If you show the track number in the folder (or in a music program too), you can organize them by the track number and see which file is which.

      Hey Sarah!
You can also use the filter option in your file manager or file explorer to know that which file should be played first. Just clik the filter option and select "sort by date" option. Hope this will Help You!

I have a question, i bought wb1 en simple korean1 as an ebook. I also have the audiofiles of these books. What I miss is the audio of the new vocabulary in every chapter. I have a lot of trouble tot learn the words because i don't hear the pronounciation of these new words.

I have watched a lot of your videos and they are intresting and fun to watch.

I'll pick them up when I finish the 1st WB. I had no problem downloading the audio files. Oh BTW the books were supposed to come in a week but showed up in less than 2 days.

      • Hi. Since they said "lesson one" I assume it is "Saying hello" they are referring to. I can't find it either. I downloaded the workbook audio files, and they aren't numbered, nor is there a file called "Saying hello". Is this an issue on my end?

        Reply
        • The audio for "Saying Hello" is together with the first Korean Made Simple workbook audio files. They have numbers, but you'd have to show them in Windows. It's number 4 in the workbook, and there are 23 files for the first workbook.

  • I am enjoying the exercises and easy instructions, thank you.

I was working in the workbook and noticed that I am to listen to track two to complete exercise. When I downloaded the zip files, my computer listed the tracks by titles in alphabetical order. Because there are no track numbers with the titles. I cannot easily find the correct lesson. The file itself does not allow me to rename the tracks.

Is there a list of the track titles in numerical order that I can use to find the correct lessons quickly?

    Reply
    • I see now that the track titles are listed in the table of contents in the workbook. That helps.

  • Hi there! I am working through your book Korean Made Simple Workbook #1 and I'm having a hard time finding the audio for this. I downloaded the advanced workbook #1 but the labels in the audio files don't match up with the book, where, for example, I am told to listen to "Track 2".

    Reply
    • Make sure you're looking at the Workbook #1 audio files and not the textbook audio files. The very first audio file in the folder will explain which book that it's for. Also, you'll want to organize the files by the track number. Your computer may have organized them by something else by default. I recommend loading them with a program that shows the file info, such as Windows Media Player, or VLC, etc.

After clicking on the download link in Safari, there is a little down arrow icon to the right of the text field where you would put in a web address. Click that and you will see the files you just downloaded. Then, click the magnifying glass icon next to the file to open your downloads folder in files. Finally, just tap the zip file and it will open into a folder. Then you can listen to the audio files. Hope this helped.

    • Sorry this reply is late. They're the same content (and images), just formatted slightly differently due to space restrictions. So they could be printed out and written on if you'd like (and have plenty of ink in your printer). They're also regular PDFs (not just scans), so you can highlight text and search it or copy/paste anything in there.

For individual vocabulary, the best place to hear accurate pronunciation is from Naver's online (free) dictionary at dict.naver.com. Every word is pronounced by native speakers, and you can look up any word you'd like 😀

    Hi Billy,
I really appreciate the way the lessons are organized. I've just finished book 1, starting on book 2 tonight, hope I can finish book 3 by next August before I head back to Korea again. Appreciate the audio files a lot as there are no Koreans where I live right now, have to depend on WhatsApp and KaKao Talk to speak with my Korean friends. The TTMIK and few other sites do a nice job with specific subjects but your books have the right sequence and continuity I think to make learning the easiest. Things are getting easier the more I work at this. There are no short cuts, just have to do the work and practice practice practice...
    Thanks again for these!

You've got it correct. It's a lot of practice. But don't feel like you're being disadvantaged by only using chatting programs - they're still very effective for practicing, even by just writing and reading. When you make some good friends with it, you can even send audio messages back and forth too, and perhaps meet them in Korea. Good luck in your studies~!

    Hi Billy,
I'm up to around book 2 at the moment and have really been enjoying the good humoured and easy going instructional style of your textbooks and videos so far.
I have adopted your books as my learning base line, with supplemental material from other resources like TTMIK, Minjiteaches, Motivatekorean, Hellotalk etc and its working great so far.
Thank you for all your content!

I originally started learning Korean in 2009 then ended up quitting a year or 2 later. So i'm somewhat in a revision phase right now to a certain extent, and its been interesting to see things about my Korean that are already better than what they were back then. On the other hand there are still some things that I'm still catching back up on, which has left me in a weird but interesting place with the language atm. But that's just all part of the journey.

Anyway keep doing what you're doing. And, thanks again!

Thanks a lot for your reply. All i'll say about language exchange apps (i used lang 8 back in the day before they became defunct)... is that people give very different corrections sometimes and its hard to know what is useful when people do that except to maybe think that there is a lot of different ways to say a similar meaning kind of like English? but you always wonder how much of it is part of them misinterpreting the English that you put alongside your Korean... hmmm haha.

      • The free PDFs are only for the "Learn Korean" videos on my YouTube channel. There aren't any other free PDF files.

I'd recommend moving through the book from the very beginning, and not skipping any sections (also make sure to read the Preface). If you move through it in order, it should move slowly and give enough explanation. Also make sure to do all of the Practice examples at the end of every chapter before going to the next chapter.

If you still want more explanation after that, you can search the topic on my YouTube channel and you'll probably find a video or two.

  • Your books are so darn good! Don't change a thing. I love foreign languages and wish the other languages had books like yours. I've bought just about every beginner Korean book out there, and your series is hands-down the main one I use to learn Korean (as for the other books I bought, I use them as secondary sources after finishing up your first book). I appreciate how you separate sections into small chunks and you explain the grammar so well. I'm so glad you stopped romanization early on because it is unnatural and an unnecessary distraction (and it's lazy). I have all of your three books and just started the second one. I would buy all of your future books without hesitation. One suggestion is to think about writing some Korean readers for beginners- there is a severe lack out there except for some intermediate and advanced readers.

  • I want to thank you so much for all the books, all the audio files and all the hardwork you've done. I deeply respect you (like a person who have done a lot and also as a teacher)-and I also respect your ancestors 😀 (I got that from the video how to memorize the vocabluary btw I thank for your videos too...)

  • Hi, just wondering, are there extended audio files for the vocabulary. Sometimes I feel like my pronounciation is not on point :/ thank you

    • If you're looking for pronunciation of every vocabulary word, definitely check out Naver's dictionary (dic.naver.com). If you type in any Korean word, there's a little speaker icon next to the word that you can click and listen to the pronunciation. These were recorded by actual natives, so you can trust their accuracy.

Could I know the size the files? I can't download it because the size is unknown, my data packet is limited. Is there other link to download, the link that can be to resumed?

    • The compressed file size is currently 47 megabytes (for books 1 and 2). That'll be a bit larger later this year once the third book is released.

  • I'm having trouble downloading the files as well. The download keeps on failing or it can't parse the response. It's really weird because the status of the download says that theres ? of the file size. I've tried downloading it in other browsers and it's doing the same thing.

You can try attempting it again after awhile (the file works) - it might be your internet connection that's having issues with the file. If you're not able to download it though, send me a message on my Contact form and I'll send it to you by email. Maybe your internet will have better luck downloading it from there instead.

    • The files are working correctly, but if you're having any trouble downloading, some people have suggested that trying a different browser could work. You can also try to download the files from another computer.

Hi Billy! I've been learning Korean since last year on September and I've made some good progress. I have no problem understanding with how the grammar of the language works. However, I have one slight problem. Whenever I try to acquire more vocabularies, I tend to forget how they're spelled everytime. It might sound odd that I can grasp the Korean grammar easily but forget how the words are spelled. For example, I always forget how the Korean word for "Artist" is spelled. Is it 예술가 or 예설가? Thankfully, I've managed to memorize how it's spelled but my issue about forgetting the spelling of the words is still there. I'm confused, is it because I see Hangeul as a different alphabet from the Latin alphabet? Am I not used to it? Maybe I'm just too lazy to memorize the correct spelling of the words. Can you give me some tips to memorize how the words are spelled? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

        • It's just difficult to memorize spelling until you've seen a word used enough, and have learned enough other words to help with that. For example, you'll know it's 예술 because you'll see that word used on its own in other places, as well as words that use 예 in them, and words that end with 가. If all you're learning is 예술가 as one piece, it's only natural to forget how to spell it. But once you've seen it used a lot, and heard it used, and have learned other words that use pieces of it, and seen it used in sentences, memorizing the spelling will become a piece of cake. So overall, it just takes more time and don't worry. If you want to speed things up, try to increase how much exposure you're giving yourself to Korean - watching things like variety shows, and making Korean friends can help with this.

Thanks for your response! I'll keep that in mind.

  • Just as a quick note for anyone else having trouble with downloading the audio files, try using a different browser. I was unable to download them using Chrome but it worked fine in Firefox 🙂

Thanks Billy! I think these will help a ton with my pronunciation!

  • Thank you for the audio files. I have both books and can't wait for the third book. I only wish you had the vocabulary words as audio files as well. That would have really completed the whole set! Thanks for all of your hard work.

    • Thanks Phillip! I didn't add audio since there's already a better way to hear the words. If you go to dic.naver.com (Naver dictionary) and type in any word, it will have the pronunciation next to it. There's also a speaker icon next to each word that you can click and hear what it sounds like. All of them were recorded by native speakers and are all accurate 🙂

    • Yes, for anyone who had difficulty downloading the file, go ahead and try it again. I think too many people were downloading at once, lol. But it should be fine now 🙂

  • Thank you for the audio files! I appreciate that you are so hard-working even though you did not reach the funds to make it! That says a lot about you as a person and I am glad to support you 🙂 I do have a suggestion- maybe make it so the speakers not sound so dead? I know they are speaking slow on purpose so that we can hear a conversation, but in reality we wouldn't hear them speak in monotone. Maybe they can speak in a normal, but still considered a slow pace by native koreans, the first time? That way, when we have conversations with koreans, we'll be able to distinguish/recognize the normal tonal up's and down's that comes with any language.

That's just my opinion though. Thank you for all you do Billy! Hopefully I'll bump into you someday since I live in the San Gabriel valley and Ktown is not too far away from me 😉

    • Haha, thank you! As for the speaking, the first time they say things is more of a normal tone. The second time was really just meant to be for practicing pronunciation (not intonation), so that's why it sounds a lot more monotone. I didn't want learners to memorize a word's intonation, but only to memorize the pronunciation, since intonation changes depending on the sentence. Intonation, however, will require another lesson to learn, since that's a whole other topic 🙂 (I think I've got an idea now for a new video, haha). Thanks again~
